Final Report

My name is Angelica Segura Lopez, and this is my final report for the WP Credits program. Over the past 13 weeks, I contributed to WordPress Photo Directory by submitting original photographs in the categories of nature, culture and architecture. This report summarizes what I worked on, what I learned, and how the experience shaped me as a contributor.

I contributed to the WordPress Photo Directory team. The objective of my project was to submit original photographs that people can use on their websites, educational projects or other digital resources. I focused on three categories: nature, culture and architecture. Throughout the project, I selected, edited and submitted photographs while following the established requirements.

I started by exploring the WordPress Photo Directory and reviewing photographs that had already been published by other contributors. My mentor Rafael Mauricio Villalta Vargas, helped me understand the contribution process and guided me during the project.

One of the main challenges I faced was that not all my photographs were accepted on the first attempt. Some images were rejected, so I had to review them and identify what could be improved. I paid more attention to aspects such as focus, lighting, composition and quality.

My main contribution was submitting original photographs to the WordPress Photo Directory. During the project, I submitted photographs in the categories of nature, culture and architecture. Some of my photographs were approved and published, while others were rejected during the review process.

I also documented my process through eight posts on my personal website. These posts explain the different experiences that I had during my project, including my first contribution, my progress, the challenges I experienced and my final reflection.

The WP Credits program taught me that contributing to an open-source project is not limited to programming. There are different ways to participate in the WordPress community, and contributing photographs is one way to provide useful content to other people. I also learned the importance of following project requirements and paying attention to details before submitting a contributing. The rejected photographs helped me understand that feedback is part of the learning process.

Some of the new skills that I gained are:

• I improved my ability to select and edit photographs.
• I learned how to upload photos to the Photo Directory.
• I developed soft skills such as time management, attention to detail, and problem-solving.

One of the things that I enjoyed the most about this experience was seeing my photographs approved and published in the WordPress Photo Directory. I was also surprised by how much attention is required when I have to do a contribution. At the beginning, I thought that taking a good photograph would be enough, but throughout the project I learned that the image needs quality, composition, descriptions and must follow the established requirements.

After completing the WP Credits program, I plan to continue contributing photographs to the WordPress Photo Directory and increase the number of images I have published. Overall, this experience allowed me to understand the contribution process from beginning to end. This experience showed me that even a small contribution can be useful to an open-source community.
